Questions about what we do….

  • What is the pain in my HEEL?

There are a few things it could be - the most common thing is plantar fasciitis, which has nothing to do with a HEEL SPUR. Fasciitis is a very common condition which is very easily treated if managed quickly. Treatments can vary but range from conservative, pharmacolotherapeutic (NSAIDs or corticosteroids) to (rarely) surgical. Nearly all heel pain issues can be managed quickly, effectively & usually painlessly.

  • How do you fix ingrown toenails?

Ingrown nails can be caused by incorrect cutting, poor hygiene, some medications or even trauma to the nail. They can be easily and painlessly treated conservatively in most cases, however if they are severe then occasionally a minor surgical procedure is required. This is generally painless and uses local aneasthetic to numb the area. Our team has almost 30 years experience in managing ingrown toenails.

  • What are foot orthotics?

Orthotics or orthoses are innersoles which go into your shoes to help reduce abnormal force through your foot/leg and body. There are many different types which we can use ranging from firm to soft, customized to off the shelf. Orthoses are not used in all patients & in fact we can resolve many issues without them.

  • What is a WART & how do you fix it?

Warts are a virus and can be very contagious. There are many different types & some of them like to live on feet and hands as well as other parts of the body. Treatment of warts involves the stimulation of your own bodies immune system to generate a T-Cell mediated response to get rid of them. We assist this process by applying topical acids, freezing or in some cases surgtically excising the lesion(s). Generally this is painless but can take a few consultations in stubborn cases.

  • What SHOE is right for me?

Shoes are extremely important. Not all shoes are created equally, and not all shoes suit all people. At The Foot Spot our Podiatrists have a vast & up to date knowledge of the latest footwear and how it interacts with your body. The right shoe advice can be the difference between injury and no injury. It can even improve performance and reduce the relative risk of injury when prescribed correctly. In combination with a correctly prescribed orthotic/innersoles, shoes become the foundation of day to day performance and activity.

  • Do you take care of TOENAILS?

Absolutely. Whether it is general foot checkups, toenail care is part of a routine much like regular cleans at your dentist should be. We also address nail conditions, thick toenails, irregularly growing nails, fungal infections in nails as well as a multitude of other issues in toenails. Rest assured, if you have a nail problem, we can address it!

  • Can you fix NAIL FUNGUS?

Yes. Nail fungus or onychomycoses is a complex issue which should be addressed as soon as you notice it. Treatments range from topical applications & correct cutting/care, to oral medications. It is important to discuss with our Podiatrists which options are suitable for you. In a small number of patients, treatments may not be suitable and management of the issue is the best course of action.

  • What is the pain the ball of my foot?

Commonly termed METATARSALGIA, this incorrectly used term generally refers to any pain in the forefoot. People commonly ignore forefoot pain but it can lead to significant issues if untreated. • Can you treat my BUNION?

Bunions or Hallux Abducto Valgus (HAV) is a condition which is largely genetic in origin. It can be conservatively managed, its progress slowed or it can be in some cases surgically rectified. We have extensive experience in the treatment and management of BUNIONS both conservatively and surgically.
